On March 11, 2021, President Biden enacted the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), providing $65.1 billion directly to municipalities across the United States. Mount Rainier has received $5.7 million in funding.
The Mayor and Council have designated these funds for a range of programs and initiatives aimed at easing the economic strain felt by residents and businesses in the city due to the pandemic. Below are updates on the programs and allocation of funds:
Through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA), the City of Mount Rainier provides grants and funding to non-profit organizations, businesses, and individuals to support initiatives and programs critical to building and maintaining strong communities.
Mayor and Council have allocated $50,000 from the American Rescue Plant Act (ARPA) to assist residents who need assistance paying their late rental and utility bills.
During the first and second round of the program, 45 households received assistance amounting to $40, 797.35.

The City of Mount Rainier is offering financial assistance to eligible households that were negatively impacted by the COVID-19 public health emergency to support home improvements/repairs through the Home Repair Program. This program is designed to improve the City's overall quality of life and to beautify the community by providing financial assistance to eligible households to undertake specific exterior/interior home improvements and repairs.

The City of Mount Rainier has awarded Thomas Stone Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization and Mount Rainier Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization $20,000 each to expand the outdoor classroom learning opportunities program of the two elementary schools in the City.
Mayor and Council allocated $40,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) for the program to support the ongoing efforts of our public schools to provide students with opportunities for engagement and expand learning spaces around the school.
The City of Mount Rainier Business Interruption Fund was to assist small businesses located in the northern 3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue and the 3300 block of Perry Street that experienced revenue loss due to the City’s stormwater construction project in the same block during the period August 2023 to April 2024.
The City has allocated $45,000 for the program.
The following City of Mount Rainier businesses are the recipients of the Small Businesses Assistance Grant launched in January 2022 by the Mayor and Council. The businesses are awarded $5000 to partially cover revenue losses incurred due to the COVID-19 public health emergency.
