The City of Mount Rainier's Department of Economic Development partners with Usource Construction and the Neighborhood Design Center to design, plan, and implement façade improvements for 3201 to 3311 Rhode Island Avenue. Funding for façade improvements comes from DHCD Community Legacy Façade Improvement Grant and the DHCD National Economic Development Fund Grant.

As part of the Department of Economic Development's comprehensive Facade Improvement Program, the project will focus on revitalizing the appearance of 28 commercial storefronts representing 12 property owners, situated along the 3801 to 4010 blocks of 34th Street. The transformation will add an aesthetic appeal necessary to convey Mount Rainier's abundance of opportunities for visitors, residents, and entrepreneurs, support local businesses, and foster economic development within the city.
The total budget allocated for the 34th Street Façade Improvement Project is $395,000. The City of Mount Rainier has successfully secured $100,000 through various DHCD (Department of Housing and Community Development) grants, allowing the first phase of the project to commence on July 1. Additionally, several grant applications have been submitted and the City is currently waiting for approval. The estimated completion date for the project is July 2024.
