Curbside Leaf Collection

Collecting leaves reduces potential accidents and injuries caused by slipping on wet leaves and prevents storm drains from clogging and causing street flooding during heavy rains.

The Department of Public Works schedules leaf collection from October to January. The Leaf Collection Schedule will be posted on this page once available.

Curbside Leaf Collection Guidelines

  • Please rake leaves into the street before your street's collection period. Rake leaves into piles at the curb. This enables crews to move more quickly and efficiently.
  • Do not include tree limbs, bricks, dirt, rocks, stones, litter, branches or other debris with leaves as it will damage the equipment, hurt our workers and delay collections.
  • Avoid placing leaves in front of storm drains.
  • Move parked cars off leaf piles for collection.
  • Do not rake leaves into alleys or service roads.

CURBSIDE LEAF COLLECTION 2025

The City of Mount Rainier’s curbside leaf collection runs from November through February. Each week, the Public Works Crew will collect leaves in designated areas.

CURBSIDE LEAF COLLECTION SCHEDULE

Crews are currently collecting in Area 4 (Orange Zone)

This year, the collection schedule will differ from the traditional one due to several upcoming city events and projects that require the support of Public Works staff. While the color-coded zones remain the same, residents will be notified one week in advance of the specific areas and streets scheduled for collection.

This improved approach will help the City better allocate resources while continuing to provide timely and efficient service to the community.

Residents are encouraged to prepare and place leaves at the curb as soon as they receive notice that collection is coming to their area. If large piles are already at the curb, crews will make every effort to collect them as soon as possible, even outside the announced schedule.
