In December 2024, the City of Mount Rainier's Department of Economic Development launched the mural arts project that will transform the wall along Rhode Island Avenue. The City invited artists to bring their designs to life by submitting design proposals.
After a two-round public voting process and valuable input from local business owners and residents, artist Shawn Perkins’ design has been selected as the winner.
Perkins’ design, inspired by the City of Mount Rainier’s rich cultural diversity and strong sense of community, incorporates various design elements into a vibrant mural that will enhance the wall on 3416 Rhode Island Avenue.
STATUS
The project was completed in April 2025. An unveiling ceremony was held to celebrate the completion of the project.
