AUTI: A New Tree Inventory
A tree inventory allows the city to keep track of tree location, size, species, health, and maintenance needs. The City recently replaced the 1990s Excel database with Accessible Urban Tree Inventory (AUTI), state-of-the-art software that includes GPS coordinates and optional pictures. Tree Commissioners will use an iPad to locate trees in city parks and open land, and Public Works staff will use AUTI for tree maintenance updates. In June 2022, the Tree Commission began adding new trees to AUTI and will add all trees on public land within the city, including those in tree boxes on residential streets.
Through the project, anyone will be able to view tree locations and obtain specific information about that tree by clicking on Google Maps. AUTI will help the Tree Commission generate reports on the various environmental, biodiversity, and financial benefits of the city's trees. If you notice one of the Tree Commissioners with an iPad looking at city trees, feel free to ask questions.
Request a Tree
If you have an empty planting spot in front of your house (between the sidewalk and street) and would like a tree there, please email us. We often give preference to people who make requests and are willing to care for a street tree.
