The Mount Rainier Police Department is proud to announce that Chief Linwood C. Alston has recently received a Certificate of Graduation from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) upon completing the Department Homeland Security Leadership Academy (DHSLA) Session-19 conducted at the FLETC in Glynco, Georgia.

Chief Alston was the only municipal police chief selected from the State of Maryland to attend the dynamic program, attended by law enforcement executives from 30 different international, state, local, and territorial agencies.

The two-week professional development and leadership training program designed for law enforcement executives was only the 19th session since its formation in 2001, after the September 11 terrorist attacks. The intensive training covered critical topics such as leadership in a crisis, the art of perception; exemplary leadership; emotional intelligence; ethics in leadership, and health and wellness. The program is the result of a collaboration between FLETC and the National Sheriffs’ Association.

FLETC has a vital mission: to train those who protect our homeland. FLETC is the primary provider of basic and advanced law enforcement training to federal law enforcement agencies, as well as a significant contributor to advanced training for state, local, and international law enforcement leaders, officers, and agents.

Chief Alston’s participation in DHSLA was fully funded by the program.
