The City of Mount Rainier will launch a new smart parking system on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, modernizing how residents, businesses, and visitors pay for on-street parking in the City’s business districts.
In partnership with ParkMobile, the City will transition from traditional coin-operated meters to a convenient digital platform that allows drivers to quickly and securely pay for parking using a mobile device, web browser, text message, or phone call. The system is designed to improve convenience while supporting parking turnover in commercial areas so spaces remain available for customers and visitors.
The smart parking system will be available in Mount Rainier’s key business corridors, including 34th Street, Varnum Street, Rhode Island Avenue, Bunker Hill Road, Otis Street, Perry Street, and 33rd Street.
Drivers can start a parking session using the ParkMobile mobile app, through a web browser, by texting “PARK” to 77223, or by calling 877-727-9990. Drivers should check the ParkMobile sign at each on-street parking location for the correct zone number, parking enforcement hours, and time limits.
To help the community adjust to the new system, the City will implement a two-week grace period beginning March 17. During this transition period, the system will be fully operational, but parking citations will not be issued while the City focuses on education and outreach. The City of Mount Rainier Police Department will begin parking enforcement on April 1 using enhanced digital enforcement tools to help manage parking availability and keep spaces accessible for residents, businesses, and visitors.
The rollout is being overseen by City Manager Kourosh Kamali, Police Chief Katherine Perez, and Assistant Police Chief Andre Williams to ensure a smooth transition for the community.
