City Offices Open on 2-Hour Delay 01/27; Collections Rescheduled for Monday 02/02
The City of Mount Rainier Administrative Offices will open 2 hours late on Tuesday, January 27.
Compost and holiday tree collections are canceled this week and will be rescheduled for Monday, February 2.
The Public Works Team continues snow removal activities, and the City of Mount Rainier Police Department continues public safety and emergency response operations.
Property owners and occupants are reminded that they are responsible for clearing snow and ice from sidewalks in front of their properties to help keep neighbors safe.
Residents are encouraged to use caution, limit travel when possible, and monitor official City communications for updates. Stay safe.

Due to severe winter weather and hazardous travel conditions, City of Mount Rainier Administrative Offices will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026.
Essential services, including the City of Mount Rainier Police Department and Public Works Team, will remain fully operational to ensure public safety, manage snow removal, and respond to emergencies.

Please note that both compost and holiday tree collections are contingent upon Prince George’s County facilities opening. Residents will be notified immediately of any further changes to the collection schedule.

City Prepares for Winter Weather Storm Impacting our Region

The National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC is forecasting a high-impact winter storm that may affect our area from late Saturday through early Monday morning. Conditions may include snow, periods of freezing rain and sleet, dangerously cold temperatures, and hazardous wind chills. Residents should plan for potentially dangerous travel conditions and rapidly changing weather.
City Operations
- The Department of Public Works will begin pre-treating roads on Saturday, January 24, and will continue snow and ice response operations as conditions develop. Crews will monitor weather and roadway conditions closely and adjust operations as needed.
- The City of Mount Rainier Police Department will be monitoring conditions and will remain on alert throughout the storm.
- Composting Collection will be rescheduled to Tuesday, January 27.
- The City’s Administrative Offices will open on a 2-hour delay on Monday, January 26. The City will reevaluate road and weather conditions and will notify community members of any changes in City operations.
