A New Mural Is Coming to Mount Rainier

Mount Rainier News Posted on October 16, 2025

A new traffic-calming street mural is coming to Mount Rainier, led by the Neighborhood Design Center and created by lead artist Chalk Riot! The mural will be installed on Bunker Hill Road outside Joe’s Movement Emporium, bringing art, color, and creativity to our community while also promoting safer streets for everyone.

To prepare for painting, a portion of Bunker Hill Road, outside Joe’s Movement Emporium, will be closed to traffic from Monday, October 20, through Friday, October 24, and will reopen on Saturday morning, October 25. Alley access and nearby parking lots will remain open throughout the duration of the project.

An unveiling celebration will be held on Friday, October 24, at 5:30 PM outside Joe’s Movement Emporium! Community members are invited to attend the celebration to meet the artist, enjoy light refreshments, and celebrate this exciting addition to our city’s public art.

This project is made possible through the support of the Maryland State Arts Council, Prince George’s Arts and Humanities Council, Anacostia Trails Heritage Area, GCS-Sigal, Joe’s Movement Emporium, and the City of Mount Rainier.

Community members are invited to share their input and learn more about the project at https://bit.ly/streetmuralsurvey by October 16.
