The City of Mount Rainier is proud to announce the completion of the High Visibility Crosswalks, ADA Ramps, and Speed Humps Project. This project, funded through the Safe Streets and Roads (SS4A) federal grant with a 20% match from the City, is one of the 10 key initiatives outlined City’s Vision Zero Action Plan. It reflects Mount Rainier’s commitment to making its streets safer and more accessible for drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians, while working toward the goal of eliminating traffic-related injuries and fatalities.
Work began on June 30, with weekly updates provided to keep residents informed as construction progressed.
Summary of Work Delivered
- ADA Accessibility: 120 new ADA curb ramps improving pedestrian access and safety at designated priority intersections across the City.
- Pedestrian Visibility: 54 thermoplastic (high visibility) crosswalk legs to enhance visibility and reduce conflict risks at crossings.
- Traffic Calming: 7 speed humps installed on neighborhood streets where excessive traffic volumes and vehicle speeds were documented, supporting Vision Zero objectives.
