Swearing-In Ceremony Held for Mayor and Council Members

On May 12, 2025, the Honorable Mahasin El Amin, Clerk of the Court for Prince George’s County, officiated the swearing-in ceremony for Mount Rainier’s newly elected officials. Mayor Celina Benitez took the oath of office for her second term, while Jenny Hoffpauir (Ward 1) and Joseph Jakuta (Ward 2) were sworn in to begin their four-year terms on the City Council.

To commemorate the occasion, Senator Malcolm Augustine, Delegate Diana Fennell, and Delegate Julian Ivey presented citations to Mayor Benitez and Council Members Hoffpauir and Jakuta.

Mayor Benitez expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the community for its continued trust and support, and reaffirmed her commitment to serving Mount Rainier.

Outgoing Council Members Luke Chesek and Jarrett Stoltzfus reflected on their time in office, highlighting key accomplishments including the Memorial Streetscape Project, Organic Recycling Program, and various infrastructure projects. They offered warm farewells and encouraged the new councilmembers to continue building a stronger, more vibrant Mount Rainier.

The ceremony was witnessed by family members, City Manager Kourosh Kamali, City staff, members of the Mount Rainier Board of Elections, and residents, welcoming a new chapter in the City’s leadership.
