Celebrate Arbor Day - Sign up for a Free Tree

Mount Rainier News Posted on April 25, 2025

In an official proclamation, Mayor Celina Benitez has designated April 25 as Arbor Day in the City of Mount Rainier.

In celebration of Arbor Day, the Mount Rainier Tree Commission, in partnership with Joe’s GreenWorks program, launched its free trees program to Mount Rainier residents. Trees may be planted in private yards or public “tree boxes” located in front of homes.

This program builds on the success of 2024, when approximately 75 trees were planted throughout the city, aiming to further enhance the City’s tree canopy, mitigate flooding, provide shade, and promote local biodiversity.

Tree planting is scheduled for Fall 2025. The Tree Commission is particularly focused on increasing tree coverage in neighborhoods with limited canopy and encourages residents to share this opportunity with their neighbors.

To request a free tree and learn more about the program, please complete the request form by June 30, 2025.
