City to Celebrate Completion of Memorial Park Streetscape Project

Mount Rainier News Posted on March 07, 2025

The City of Mount Rainier is proud to announce the completion of the Memorial Park Streetscape Project, one of the city's most significant infrastructure initiatives aimed at enhancing public spaces and fostering a vibrant downtown. To celebrate this milestone, the City will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on March 28, 2025, at 3 PM

Originally proposed by Councilmember Luke Chesek, the project was envisioned to revitalize the area to create a welcoming space for the community while also increasing economic activity. With the strong support of Mayor Celina Benitez and the City Council, the project was brought to life in 2023 through funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) Grant, and Maryland Heritage Areas Authority (MHAA) Grant.

City Manager Kourosh Kamali oversaw the project, with Usource Construction selected through a competitive bidding process. Work began in August 2023 and reached substantial completion in October 2024, with final adjustments made before the official celebration.

This transformative project features:

  • New pavers and upgraded walkways
  • Bioretention areas to manage stormwater runoff
  • Enhanced landscaping & green infrastructure
  • Seating and gathering areas for community use

The Memorial Park Streetscape Project represents a major step forward in Mount Rainier’s ongoing efforts to revitalize its downtown. It will create a more dynamic, welcoming, and environmentally sustainable space for residents and visitors alike.
