1. What are you most proud of as an African American?

I am most proud of being a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., the oldest and largest Black Fraternity in the United States.  I've listed a few notable members below, yet I must include our own beloved Governor Wes Moore.

Martin Luther King Jr.

Thurgood Marshall

W.E.B. Du Bois

Adam Clayton Powell Jr.

Dick Gregory

Jesse Owens

Paul Robeson

Duke Ellington

Andrew Young

Roland Martin

John Johnson

Robert F. Smith

These brothers of mine, continue to inspire me towards greatness and have significantly improved and impacted the lives of all Americans.

2) What is the significance of Black History Month to you and your family?

My daughter graduated from Spelman College and Meharry Medical School, and my son from Morehouse College.  Consequently, being nurtured in a quality educational environment teaming with instructors instilling a knowledge of self, and truly caring about your mental health and well-being, I'm confident my children will achieve phenomenal success and play a pivotal role in American history.

3) How would you like to recognize and honor African American culture and history in our nation?

First of all, I’d encourage public institutions, businesses, and schools to focus on specific African American pioneers and innovators throughout the month.

Additionally, promoting African American artists, musicians, authors, and filmmakers by supporting their work and offering platforms for them to showcase their talents.

4)  How has diversity shaped your experience of working in the City of Mount Rainier?

Being originally from New York, I'm quite familiar with working and living in diverse communities.  The beauty of Mount Rainier is the willingness of the businesses and residents to set aside differences and work towards mutually beneficial goals despite perceived challenges.
