Support Community Wildlife Gardens: Fund Native Plant Labels!

Mount Rainier News Posted on December 10, 2024

The Prince George's Audubon Society (PGAS) Wildlife Habitat Program is raising funds to expand its unique bilingual plant label library for native wildlife gardens. This initiative complements the City’s commitment to wildlife habitats, reflected in the Native Plant Network spearheaded by the Mount Rainier Green Team and Councilmember Luke Chesek. These similar efforts highlight the importance of preserving native species and educating the community about their ecological value.

In 2022, PGAS created a wildlife garden at Joe’s Movement Emporium, inspiring similar future projects in Brentwood, Colmar Manor, and Riverdale Park. A key feature of these gardens is the beautiful bilingual plant label which provides information about plant species and on how native plants support local ecosystems.

Currently, there are labels for only 31 species. PGAS is partnering with Mount Rainier artist Tessla Thompson to design labels for over 70 additional plants from their Habitat 100+ list. With your support, these labels will make native gardens more impactful and informative.
