Ordinance Reminder: Leash Your Dog in Public Spaces

Mount Rainier News Posted on October 22, 2024

The City of Mount Rainier would like to remind all residents and visitors of the City Ordinance that requires dogs to be leashed in public spaces. According to Section 14-103 of the Municode, no dog is permitted to be in public areas—including streets, sidewalks, roadways, alleys, or even private property—without being properly restrained by a leash or lead that is no longer than six (6) feet in length. The leash must be under the control of a person capable of handling the dog at all times.

This regulation is in place to protect public safety and ensure the well-being of everyone in the community, including other pets. Non-compliance can result in penalties and poses significant risks, such as dog-related accidents or aggressive encounters.

The City encourages all dog owners to take responsibility and help create a safe environment for everyone. Let’s work together to keep Mount Rainier a safe and pet-friendly place.

For more information, please refer to the city’s code or contact the Code Compliance Department at 301-458-5103.

If residents are aware of any violation, they may submit a complaint online.
