The City of Mount Rainier announces in January that solar installations at the Police Department, Public Works, Code Enforcement Department/Library, and Malinda Miles Building have been completed, commissioned, passed final inspection, and are now fully operational. Installation at Potts Hall Welcome Center has been completed, but is awaiting Pepco for the operation permit.
These solar systems will help reduce the City’s energy costs, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and provide long-term operational savings, enabling the City to reinvest resources in essential services for its community.
The City received nearly $410,000 in funding from the Maryland Energy Administration’s Public Facilities Solar Grant Program to support solar installations at five City-owned facilities. This investment reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, renewable energy, and resilient public infrastructure.
