State of Maryland Delegate Julian Ivey helped the CIty of Mount Rainier procure $530,000 in funding from the state budget to fund the City’s Mitigation and Road Improvement Project on the intersection of Perry Street and 31st Street. On Tuesday, April 26, City Manager Kourosh Kamali, Mayor Celina Benitez, Councilmembers Jimmy Tarlau, Luke Chesek, and Jarrett Stoltzfus met with Del. Ivey to discuss the project, scope, and benefits.
The project is expected to significantly reduce flooding and erosion in the area by capturing a large amount of runoff from Eastern Ave, thereby improving the health and quality of life in the City. The project will also create bike sharrows for community members and will beautify the streets. The implementation of the project is also expected to improve water quality in our bay, streams, and rivers.
The project is currently in the design concept stage. The concept design, once finalized by the consultant, will be presented to the Mayor and Council and to the members of the community for discussion and feedback.
