The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has activated new turn lane traffic signals and pedestrian signals at the intersection of Rhode Island Avenue and Eastern Avenue. This activation follows the implementation of a new traffic pattern in April, designed to improve safety and traffic flow at the intersection.
The revised traffic pattern on Eastern Avenue dedicates the left lanes to left-turning vehicles and the right lanes to right-turning vehicles for both northbound and southbound directions. These changes aim to enhance safety and efficiency at this busy intersection.
This traffic safety improvement is the result of a collaborative effort between the City of Mount Rainier and the DC Government and DC Department of Transportation. Councilmember Jarrett Stoltzfus and Valerie Woodall played key roles in this initiative, along with Mayor Celina Benitez, and the City Manager Kourosh Kamali. The partnership with the DC government has been invaluable in making these changes and enhancing the safety and security of our community.
