Thomas Stone Elementary School PTO received $20,000 in grant funding from the City of Mount Rainier’s Outdoor Classroom Program. On December 13, Mayor Celina Benitez presented the check to PTO President Kameka Harris and Principal Shawn Hintz.
The PTO proposed to use the award money to create a second outdoor classroom on the school ground providing more science and environmental enrichment and enhancing the outdoor education experience with music and arts.
In July, Mayor and Council approved the allocation of $40,000 in funding from the American Rescue Plan Act to support outdoor classroom learning in two of the City’s local schools. Mount Rainier Elementary PTO was the other recipient of $20,000.
Investing in education and our children is one of the priorities of the Mayor and Council.
