Chief Linwood Alston of the Mount Rainier Police Department and Mayor Celina Benitez spoke at a recent press conference about the new grant awarded to the Mount Rainier Police Department, in partnership with the Hyattsville Police Department and Brentwood Police Department for mental health program initiatives.
The funding totaling $230,000 will allow for the three municipalities to launch a Crisis Intervention Team co-responder program and hire a licensed mental health practitioner to respond with a CIT-certified law enforcement officer to the scene of extreme behavioral health crisis calls.
