City to Distribute 1000 Holiday Baskets to Residents

Mount Rainier volunteers at recent Thanksgiving holiday distribution

 

(Mount Rainier, MD) - The City of Mount of Mount Rainier through the initiative of its local government leader, Mayor Celina Benitez, and the Council, will be distributing holiday baskets to the members of the community in need on December 17 at the Mount Rainier Police Station from 3:00 p.m to 6:00 p.m. 

The City of Mount Rainier which has a population of  8320 has been identified by the Housing Urban Development (HUD) as 65.02% low to moderate income residents. A basket filled with holiday staples like ham, turkey, dessert mix, canned vegetables, and other non-perishable food items, is always received by the citizens as a thoughtful gift from the city government especially during these trying times. Holiday baskets will also be distributed to the Manor Senior Center, Thomas Stone Elementary School and Mount Rainier Elementary School. 

Many members of the community also volunteered to help carry out this Mount Rainier holiday tradition. Volunteers will begin packing the baskets starting on Tuesday, December 14 at 3:00 p.m. More volunteers are expected to help starting at 7:00 a.m on the day of distribution.
