*A Message from the Mount Rainier Recreation Committee*

Some of you long timers in MtR recall that our community held an event for the Holidays wherein local families would support other local families who had been struggling or had fallen on hard times.  Back then it may have been called “The Giving Project” if I’m not mistaken (maybe someone can confirm that for us). This coming holiday season, the MRRC is sponsoring or better said, “Reviving” that MtR tradition and calling it, “ Holiday Family Outreach”.
 
 In conjunction with Thomas Stone and Mount Rainier Elementary schools, The MRRC will use the next several months to launch this initiative. The Schools will be identifying families that have been most affected by the Pandemic with loss of income issues etc. and the MRRC will be seeking support from our community for those who are interested in "adopting" a family or buying gifts for the children (winter coat, shoes, an article of clothing, toy, etc). If perhaps you can’t adopt a family, you could also supply a holiday item that the MRRC will pair with other donations for this purpose.
 
 We know it’s early to be thinking about the holidays in August so we will refresh this page and message as we near the season but know that you can reach out to us here in the comments and we will add your to the list of willing participants. As we develop more information about this program the MRRC will keep you up to date via the town newsletter, email groups and here on Facebook.

 Algunos de ustedes son residentes de Mt. Rainier desde hace mucho tiempo, quizas se recuerdan que nuestra comunidad realizo un evento similar durante los dias festivos de Navidad , anos atras. Durante ese tiempo familias locales apoyaron a familias que estuvieron luchando o atravesando por tiempos muy dificiles. En aquel entonces, el proyecto se llamaba (Giving Project) "El proyecto de donaciones", si no me equivoco (tal vez alguien pueda confirmarlo). Esta próxima temporada navideña, el MRRC estár patrocinando o mejor dicho, “Reviviendo” esa tradición de MtR y lo llamáremos, “Apoyando a la comunidad”.
  
 Juntos con las escuelas primarias Thomas Stone y Mount Rainier, el MRRC lanzara esta iniciativa los próximos meses. Las escuelas identificarán a las familias que han sido más afectadas por la pandemia con problemas de pérdida de ingresos, trabajo, etc. MRRC empesara a buscará apoyo de la comunidad., gente que este interesada en "adoptar" una familia para comprar regalos para los niños (abrigos para el invierno, zapatos, prendas de vestir, juguetes, etc.). Si no puede adoptar una familia, MRRC aceptara donationes individuales.
  
 Sabemos que es muy temprano empesar a pensar en las navidades en Agosto. Razon por la cual actualizaremos esta página y el mensaje a medida que nos acerquemos a la temporada.
