ln 2022 the Tree Commission implemented AUTI, Accessible Urban Tree Inventory, a cloud-based software program. To date, 1842 public trees have been inventoried, 1557 belonging to the city, with the remaining parks scattered throughout the city on MNCPPC or county land. Using AUTI, the city can readily:
- Monitor the location, diversity, and condition of public trees.
- Analyze the environmental, ecological, and financial benefits they contribute.
- Generate Google Maps of tree locations that anyone can download to a smartphone or computer.
The Tree Commission encourages the use of this Google Map as an educational tool to get to know our public trees. The Google Map can be downloaded here. Using this map, you will find each tree’s location as a button that can be clicked to display details such as the common and botanical name, diameter, condition, date planted, notes…etc. The Tree Commission may also post Google Maps for specific trees, such as a ‘Bloom Alert’, on the Mount Rainier List Serve for rapid distribution.
