The City of Mount Rainier and Social Security Administration to Provide Free Social Security Workshops
The Mount Rainier Police Department’s Social Services, in partnership with the Social Security Administration (SSA) will be holding three workshops in March and April to discuss topics related to social security including retirement and Medicare, benefits, disability, supplemental security income, and more. Social Security Administration’s Public Affairs Specialist, Diana Varela, will administer the series of virtual workshops in English and Spanish. To join the virtual discussion, pre-registration is required but is open to the public. Mount Rainier residents who do not have access to a computer or a mobile phone may be able to join the workshop at the MRPDs Conference Room but they need to pre-register.
The workshops will discuss everything you need to know about Social Security including:
- When are you eligible to receive retirement benefits?
- How does early retirement affect your benefits?
- Do you qualify for disability, survivors, and spouse benefits?
- How do you get the most from your benefit?
- What is the future of Social Security?
- When should you file for Medicare?

Workshops are from 10 a.m. to 12 nn and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. (Spanish).
