The Mount Rainier Recreation Committee (MRRC) announced the annual Holiday Outreach Program. As in years past, the Mount Rainier Recreation Committee will solicit the interest of families in need through its partnership with Mount Rainier Elementary School and Thomas Stone School for our community’s most eligible families.
The committee is looking for families who will be interested in supporting the children of these families with holiday gifts, clothing, etc. to “pair” them together. MRRC will also be accepting gifts from citizens who may not be able to support a family through the Holiday Outreach Program but still want to participate by giving a gift.
Message from the Mount Rainier Recreation Committee:
Some of you long-timers in Mount Rainier recall that our community held an event for the Holidays wherein local families would support other local families who had been struggling or had fallen on hard times. Back then it may have been called “The Giving Project” if I’m not mistaken. This coming holiday season, the MRRC is sponsoring, “Holiday Family Outreach”.
In conjunction with Thomas Stone and Mount Rainier Elementary schools, The MRRC will spend the next several months launching this initiative. The schools will be identifying families that have been most affected by the pandemic with loss of income issues etc. and the MRRC will be seeking support from our community for those who are interested in "adopting" a family or buying gifts for the children (winter coat, shoes, an article of clothing, toy, etc). If you’re unable to adopt a family, you could also supply a holiday item that the MRRC will pair with other donations for this purpose.
We know it’s early to be thinking about the holidays so we will refresh this page and message as we near the season but know that you can reach out to us here in the comments and we will add you to the list of willing participants. You can also email us directly at RecreationCommittee@MountRainierMD.org or reach out to our coordinator Bob Vanderbilt via text at 201-993-8070. As we develop more information about this program the MRRC will keep you up to date via the town newsletter, email groups and here on Facebook.
Thank you for your interest
