Notice of Construction: Stormwater Retrofit Project to Begin on September 19

The City of Mount Rainier Department of Public Works is going to start a Stormwater Retrofit Project (Rain Garden Installations in the tree box area) on 30th Street between Shepherd Street and Bunker Hill Road, and 33rd Street between Bunker Hill Road and Perry Street.  

  • 33rd Street between Bunker Hill Road and Perry Street-Starting 9/19/22-10/22/22 
  • 30th Street between Shepherd Street and Bunker Hill Road-Starting 10/12/22-10/28/22   

The contractor performing this work is Professional Lawn Maintenance Services, LLC. Access to the impacted sidewalks will be restricted during construction.   

This project has been funded by Chesapeake Bay Trust through the Prince George’s County Stormwater Stewardship Grant Program. The objective of this Water Quality Project is the creation of a green street to improve the water quality, beautify the community, improve resident’s health by increasing our green infrastructure and initiative. The project enables the city to continue the progress made to date related to the design and construction of green infrastructure practices to achieve the overreaching objective of making the City of Mount Rainier a model “green city”. Meanwhile, engaging Prince George’s County residents in the restoration and protection of our local rivers and streams.    

The rain gardens installed will not be the homeowner’s responsibility and will be maintained by the Department of Public Works.       

Ecosite, Inc., the engineering consultant for this project conducts a brief preliminary screening of identified sites to verify that the sites meet the guidelines established by the Chesapeake Bay Trust (CBT) which manages the Prince George’s County Stormwater Stewardship Grant Program.  This grant program is a competitive process and to date the City of Mount Rainier has been one of the major recipients of grant funding. 

Parking restriction and interruption to traffic flow will occur at times.  

NO PARKING BETWEEN 8:00 AM AND 5:00 PM.
