We would like to take this time to thank our residents, staff, and council for the unwavering support that has been shown to our team during these times.
As we get closer to Independence Day, we would like to remind all of our residents about the dangers and legalities of selling, possessing, lighting, and/or burning illegal fireworks here in Prince George's County. The picture above is of fireworks confiscated this week by officers. The type pictured are just examples of a few fireworks that can cause fires, and property damage, affect those with PTSD and even cause serious bodily injury.
All fireworks, including sparklers and snappers, are illegal in Prince George's County. County law removes any doubt about what is permitted and what is not. ALL consumer fireworks are not permitted in Prince George's County.
We encourage everyone to call the Police if they know of anyone possessing, selling, burning, exploding, or igniting fireworks within the City of Mount Rainier. Our dispatch line is 301.985.6565.
Remember also that transporting fireworks across state lines is illegal, including after purchasing them in neighboring states where they are legal.
There are penalties for possession, selling, burning, exploding, or igniting illegal fireworks in Prince George's County, Maryland.
In Prince George's County, penalties for law violations include a fine of up to $1,000 and/or six months in jail.
