Earlier this month, MRPD Private First Class Abdul Alharazim was recognized for performing a life-saving act in the City while responding to a medical emergency on February 11, 2021.

PFC Alharazim arrived at the scene and was immediately presented with a 19-month-old child that had sustained a life-threatening injury to his chest after falling on an unknown object.

"PFC Alharazim immediately retrieved his first aid kit from his cruiser and began to compress the wound to control the bleeding, all while keeping the infant awake and alert and attempting to keep the mother calm. The actions PFC Alharazim took that day contributed to the saving of this young life and brings great credit upon himself, this agency, and the City of Mount Rainier,"  said Lieutenant Simms.

Maryland State Senator Malcolm Augustine attended the ceremony and presented PFC Alharazim with an official citation that recognized Alharazim's  bravery and courage.

"You all put your lives on the line but you also save lives," said Senator Augustine.

Chief Linwood Alston also presented PFC Alharazim with the Chief's Award of Excellence.

Mr. Rosenberger, the father of the injured child, added, "If it was not for this man, my son would not be here. Thank you."
