About the Recreation Committee

The Mount Rainier Recreation Committee aims to facilitate multi-generational recreational opportunities in the areas of sports, appreciation of our natural environment, and the arts. The committee is the steward for the City of Mount Rainier recreational resources ensuring that residents have full access and take full advantage of our neighborhood treasures. Recreation Committee events generally include:

• Sweaty Sweater 5K & Fun Run
• Community Yard Sale
• Earth Day Activities
• Mount Rainier Pride Parade
• Porchfest Lite

The Recreation Committee is responsible for reviewing and approving the City of Mount Rainier’s Recreation Activities Grant. The Recreation Activities Grant provides reimbursement of eligible expenses to organizations and community members who wish to hold programs, activities, and events. These programs must be open to residents within the corporate boundaries of the City of Mount Rainier and promote enhanced community engagement. Previous grantees include local PTOs, community members putting together Juneteenth events, and more.

Recreation Grant Application

The City of Mount Rainier believes that supporting community activities enhances the community as a whole. In support of that belief, the City Council established the Recreation Activities Grant. The grant provides reimbursement of eligible expenses to organizations that wish to hold programs, activities, and events. These programs must be open to residents within the corporate boundaries of the City of Mount Rainier and promote enhanced community engagement.

The maximum Recreation Activities Grant award per organization every fiscal year is $2,500. Fiscal Year commences July 1st and concludes on June 30th of the next year. All grant funds must be expended during the fiscal year.
