After being suspended for months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Alley Cat Rescue’s Cheap Fix Cat Clinic has now resumed its weekly spay days. Currently the program is operating on a reduced schedule, with 20 appointments available each week as well as a waitlist for additional participants. The Cheap Fix Cat Clinic offers high-quality and low-cost services for feral/community cats, owned cats, and all cats in between. Community cats from designated zip codes in Maryland are eligible to receive free spay/neuter surgery and a rabies vaccine, and the cost for these services are just $50 for cats from other areas. Additionally, any pet cat can be spay/neutered and vaccinated for $50.

The suspension of this weekly service has had a significant impact on feral cats in Maryland. The lack of spay/neuter programs has resulted in the community cat populations continuing to grow, with more litters being born on the streets and more cats being placed in shelters. Now that the Cheap Fix Cat Clinic has resumed, members of the public are encouraged to get involved with Trap-Neuter-Return in their community. The ACR office will provide traps on loan, as well as give advice on trapping. Once cats are trapped, they simply need to be dropped off in the morning at ACR’s office, where they are then transported by ACR to have surgery, and are ready to be picked up from the office in the evening.
