Waste Collection Schedule

Regular trash Pick Up – This pick is scheduled for Wednesday of each week. You are allowed up to 5, 33 gallon trash cans. No trash in bags on the top of cans or on the ground and no overflowing cans. All cans must have lids.
Bulk Pick Up – Collection of large household items such as sofa, mattress, chairs etc. There is a fee for Refrigerators, freezers and A/c ($25.00) Tires with rim $6.00 and without rim $5.00. You are allowed 6 free pickups per year each up to 3 cubic yards. All appointment must be made before 12 noon on the Friday preceding the pickup day. The bulk request numbers is 301-985-6558 (option 1).
Please have all bulk trash and yard waste out by 7:00 am on the respective pick up day and all bulk trash and Yard Waste appointments made before 12 noon on the Friday preceding pick up day.
Special Bulk Pick Up – Residents can schedule a special pick up at any time, all items must be placed within view so that the Director or Asst. Director can view and give the cost for removal. The resident must pay for the pick up at City Hall before the pickup can be made.
Recycle Pick Up – All recycle items must be placed in a recycle bucket. If your bucket is broken please call public Works for a replacement. There is a $7.50 charge for any additional bucket.
Recycle Items – bottles, cans and paper.
Yard Waste Pick Up – consists of biodegradable yard waste and is collected every Monday from March through November without appointment. In December, January and February an appointment must be made by calling the bulk line and selecting option 2. Yard waste must not include poison ivy, poison oak or poison sumac.
Pick Up Time – All trash must be placed out after 7 PM on the day before the pickup and before 7AM on the day of the pick up.
Electronic Recycling – The Department of Public Works is offering electronic recycling through Unicor. Electronic Items may ONLY be dropped off at the Department of Public Works on the quarterly Saturday drop-off dates; March 17, June 16, September 15, and December 15. Pot Hole Repair – If you encounter any potholes within the City of Mount Rainier please call the department of Public Works.
Trees – Public Works is responsible for city trees. Please contact the Public Works Department for information about street tree planting and maintenance or with questions about tree permits.
